Eiko Integrative Therapies Newsletter Kick Off! Gift Certificates, Logo, Sabathani and More!

First Newsletter!

Hello everyone, Instagram is too unstable for me to run my business due to shadow banned political content so I am moving my communications over here as much as possible. I quit my job at the hospital about three months ago and my schedule is wide open for OT, sensory assessments, home evaluations, Swedish massage, Thai bodywork, craniosacral, Somatic Experiencing informed coaching and couples bodywork classes. I’m out of pocket only at this point and sliding scale. I’m dedicated to making my services accessible. Check out my Rates page for more info.

I get a lot of questions about what OT looks like in private practice. It’s a good question I am still figuring out. OT is about meaningful activity— so broad! In general that means I listen to what activities are challenging for folks and am a comrade in assisting folks to figure out how to engage with the world in a embodied way that leaves you feeling more enriched, wise, fulfilled, and more able to trust yourself and your body/mind/spirit afterwards.

Online Scheduler Up!

I finally have my online scheduler up and running! You can schedule with me and see my schedule more easily now. I have telehealth sessions for SE coaching and OT coaching on Tuesday and Wednesday, all my in person sessions are on Thursdays and will expand once my Thursdays are full. I will be leaving Anam Cara soon to share space with Sun Yung Shin in Raffo/Ayo/Griffin’s old space which I helped to paint years ago in Sabathani Community Center.

New Office at Sabathani Community Center, Room 206

I’m SO excited to have a little room to decorate and make cozy. I’m also looking forward to being across the street from the coop…mmmmm. If you want to chill with Sun Yung and I while we paint, better yet help us paint, or donate money to our glorification process you can Venmo (@EikoMizushima) either of us and we will blush, giggle, gossip about you, and feel amazed about your generosity.

There is an elevator so we are wheelchair and more chronic pain accessible. Sabathani Community Center is one of Minnesota’s oldest African American-founded nonprofits. They have a food distribution center, clothing shelf, senior services, youth services, employment assistance, with a racial justice and environmental justice vision for themselves. I’ll do a deeper dive into their history another time.

My gorgeous wife Olivia Levins Holden made the logo at the top. The star shape in the middle is a Ainu design, called a Sik or Siki, this means eye and I’ve learned that it means to watch affectionately like a star. I chose the warm orange and red brown colors because it reminds me of Hawaiian soil and soil from some of my favorite places in Minnesota. Volcanic, disruptive, eruptive, rich soil— the kind you want to dip your finger into and use as paint, or run a few miles in so you’re covered in it’s gorgeous dust. Ugh, so good. The purple pink is just tasty to me, reminds me of Sebastian Joes raspberry chocolate chip ice-cream; back when I was eating sugar this one was one of my favorites. A Mar’s Black background holding it all together, I just love the whole design.

Gift Certificates for the Holidays

I set up an online gift certificate system. I haven’t used it yet, so if you buy one from me you’re my test-run! Buy it and I’ll send you an online gift certificate that you can print out or email to a loved one. These gift certificates are sliding scale as well. If you’re not sure what to give I have some standard prices and then I list out some sliding scale rates to help you out, and if you’re still not sure I can hop on a 15 minute consult with you to talk it out as we figure it out together. Capitalism, what a mess.

Southside Shtetl and Eikoologies

Small plug about my art practice. I tabled at my first craft sale with Queer Voices Minnesota, what a delight. I’m selling buddhist treasure knot plant hangers, ornaments, posters, keychains, and chaga. Text, email, or message me on IG if you want anything. Hemp plant hangers are $25, agave fiber plant hangers are $39 (from a historical and educational agave fiber processing farm in the Yucatan), ornaments are $10-$25, Monkey Fist keychains $10, chaga 3.5 oz $25, chaga 1.7oz $12.50, Boycott Divest Sanction Mobilize small poster $20, Boycott Divest Sanction Mobilize large poster $40, flasks $15-25, and prayer rings (all pay-what-you-can proceeds go towards local Palestine organizing). I’ll be selling my posters and prayer rings at the Southside Shtetl 3:30-7p on Sunday, December 8th at Pillsbury Theatre. If you want any other items I can bring them there especially for you, but otherwise I’m just selling my Palestine focused items.
