Kissing Time: Beltane, May Day, Fires, Romance, Conflict, and Geraniums

Song of the Week

Listen to this song as you read to help open you up.

Updates!

I’ve been readying myself for Beltane (beginning of summer) aka May Day! It’s a time of fertility and more sun sun sun. Go outside, kiss on the grass, think about kissing in the grass, kiss the grass, kiss a picture of your celebrity crush, just kiss something as much as you can, I am sure it’s good for you and the world. For good luck and preventing difficulty from entering the home, bring some yellow flowers or branches. Make a fire for this season of spring, we made it. Flames, smoke, and ashes from May Day are believed to have protective powers. Burn and cleansing potentially destructive powers from your life and the world never hurts. If there’s dew on May Day I’m going to try and collect some, sounds fun!

Questions to mull over:

  • How can you shine without burning yourself?

  • It’s a potent time of divination for blooming love, what kinds of love is blooming in you and how can you support it?

Finally, if were talking about romance, love, and of course the Worker’s Day March tomorrow, we know it’s helpful to keep learning about how to navigate conflict. If you haven’t read Raffo’s blog post on conflict, check it out here. I loved it. Being in authentic relationships means there is love and conflict, side by side, let’s keep figuring out how to be better with one another in all the ways we show up.

I’m in the middle of listening to this episode on Resentment with Morgan Bassichis and Dean Spade and I liked it. They talk about resentment fixation, how these patterns can poison our joy in individual and group dynamics. That’s all folks!

Wild Geranium

Wild and native Geranium I found at William O’Brien State Park. It’s rare for me to see purple out in the wild.

A cool fact about wild geranium is that its seed pods explode when mature, dispersing seeds up to 30 feet away from the parent plant! Wow. Geranium maculatum means “little spotted crane” in Latin and is based on their seed pods.

Community Events

May Day Parade in Powderhorn is this Sunday May 3rd, all day. It’s very decentralized so who knows what will happen, but that’s the fun of it now too.

I like the Celtic Junction, its a hub for MN Irish folks to gather.
