It's a Good Day to Fight the System

Performers from the Antifascist Drunk(ish) History Show
Song of the Week
Listen to this song as you read to help open you up. It’s A Good Day To Fight the System by Shungduzo.
I woke up feelin' great, the birds are in the trees
They're singin' me a melody, la-la-la-la, fuck the police
My head is on straight, my heart is in peace
My soul is incredibly ready to change history…
We're never gonna stop (we're never gonna stop)
We're gonna make it count (we're gonna make it count)
When one of us is tired out (uh-uh)
The other one will hold it down (uh-huh)…
We're gonna spread the love (spread the love)
We're gonna spread it 'round (the love)
We're all over the city now (uh-huh)
And way down in the underground (woo, c'mon)
Updates!
I’m still reeling from our fundraiser, that’s why this newsletter is a little late. It was so so fun to have beloveds up on stage being so brave, funny, talented, and delivering much needed medicine. The Antifascist Drunk(ish) History was so amazing in fact, that we are going to do it again. Date TBD, but we’re scheming and the next show will be even better as we improve and incorporate feedback from our audience.
Reviews from the show include that it was, “captivating”, “fantastic”, “motivating”, “moving”, conjured feelings of “not being alone”, “empowered”, “connected”, “surprised”, “blood-lust”, and my favorite, “its been done before, it can be done again”.
Here are some sneak peaks from the show.
Aziz Bisanz as Les Feinberg
I didn’t know how amazing Les Feinberg was, or much about zie’s book Stone Butch Blues, so now it’s next on my reading list. I also didn’t know that Les was a fierce advocate for Palestinian rights long before more people on the left joined in.
Olivia Levins Holden as Minerva Mirabel Reyes
Minerva stood up to a dictator, helped to change the tides in her beloved Dominican Republic, and came back to tell us her story.
Autumn Brown as James Baldwin
James Baldwin blew the audience away with his stunning reflections on the state of the United States of America and reminded us about what true liberation is and means.
Oanh Vu as the Trac Trung Sisters
Trac Trung sisters brought us back to a time when Vietnam was a matriarchal society and these women led a successful rebellion against the Chinese colonial armies!
Ricardo Levins Morales as Urayoan
Urayoan shared about the strategies he and his people in Boriken used to determine the vulnerabilities of Spanish invaders, and open pathways of resistance.
Maya Mineoi leading a song
Maya Mineoi led us through a gorgeous song together. They have such a beautiful voice.

I’m a big fan of Fish Food and the man behind it, Tyler Kutscheid. Tyler is providing wild, Mississippi caught, fish to the Twin Cities. His goal is to bring high quality, local, and underutilized fish to Twin Cities grocers, restaurants and, ultimately, consumers! This effort is born out a belief in local economies and that consumption and conservation aren't in conflict but, if done thoughtfully, reinforce each other. This man is thoughtful, creative, caring, and brings an intersectional lens to what he does, and I’m into it!

“We are excited to welcome the Class of 2029 from Minnesota to campus this fall!” Come cheer for some freshman babies starting at my alma mater Macalester College. It’s quite the time to be starting college, and Macalester tends to attract the weird and tenacious ones, so go and support some of them with a warm welcome. Then head to Shish, which is Palestinian owned, afterwards for some yummy food. Just an idea.
