Song of the Week
Listen to this song as you read to help open you up. Cain Culto- KFC Santería feat. Sudan Archives. Here’s a little more background on the song.
Updates!
Short update this week since I’m starting a long SE training today and over the weekend. I can’t wait to reflect more on the slowness of last weekend. I had so many wonderful moments in the Boundary Waters yet again. I found these Honey Mushrooms, which are called La Familia in Spain because they grow in so much abundance that they can feel whole families. Indeed I found them growing in the thousands just in the small area I was in. They look very different as they grow from babies to adults. To eat these, one MUST first learn to easily identify the deadly Galerina marginata aka Funeral Bell and the will-make-you-feel-so-ill, Omphalotus olearius aka Jack O Lantern (yes it glows in the dark). Honey Mushrooms are ideal in soups and curries because they have a natural thicking agent called mucilage, which comes form their high levels of carbohydrates (polysaccharides). Yummy. I also caught, killed, and ate my first Northern Pike and large fish, which was a surprising learning adventure on many levels.

Not meant to be an ad for REI or Bota Box, but it was a delicious foraged meal. Picture by Eiko Mizushima.

$35 dollars for a Fall Colors Train ride in Osceola Wisconsin at the MN Transportation Museum. I highly recommend this! You can bring your own food and support this interactive moving breathing museum. I like the mail room in the back and the different decor in each train, but mostly I love the breeze and snacking my way through nature.
